Moving to a brand-new neighborhood, starting at an unfamiliar school, or trying to fit in where nobody knows your name is super intimidating. Studying verses about immigrants highlights how ancient rules and teachings focused on welcoming foreigners, protecting newcomers, and showing kindness to people far from home.
Leaving everything behind to live in an unfamiliar country or city brings massive challenges, and scripture repeatedly commands communities to treat outsiders with fairness rather than suspicion. Ancient laws insisted that foreigners living among local populations deserved the same basic respect, justice, and protection as anyone else.
Practicing radical hospitality toward newcomers helps break down barriers and reminds everyone what it feels like to be an outsider needing a helping hand. Showing empathy to people adjusting to a new culture builds a welcoming community where everyone feels valued and safe.
